2) If it takes five machines 5 minutes to make five widgets, how long would it take 100 machines to make 100 widgets?

3) In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of it?

got 2/3. Well, the right answer of the first one, which I got wrong, is pretty obvious but it took a minute to figure out why I got wrong. meh.

How I Broke The Long Jump Record

After the awesome sushi party at Beau's, I was enjoying my night ride from Lower Haight. Pedaling my bike on sleepless 16th Street, I saw a lot of people out there. Some of them surrounded me after my epic long jump at the intersection 16th Street and Mission St.

At the left red line, there's a huge dip made by a road surface repairing. Riding my bike in the dark at 11:50pm,  I had no chance to realized the dip. My front wheel got stuck in it and made this long jump. It was almost 30 feet (9 meter). 

Fortunately, I just got a few scratches on my right elbow and right flank. My right shoulder hurts a bit but not serious. My bike is also fine, though I found a couple of scratches on the top of the handle bar since my bike turned over.

Of course, I crossed the intersection on green light so that no car coming from Mission St.

I'm a lucky boy.

Echofon for Mac now available in beta

We have added Echofon for Mac to our Echofon family. You can now enjoy the simple and clean beauty of Echofon on your Mac desktop.

As a test user, I have been using Echofon for Mac a while and found out it's better than Tweetie. Basically, I don't like any Apps which use a "drawer". For example, Handbrake is using a drawer odd way and it doesn't make any sense. But, the drawer of Echofon-for-Mac is different. It's pretty useful and innovative. You can stack a conversation or check a user's profile on it. Moreover, you can go back and forward in the drawer history.

One more big feature is "Sync". If you're using a Echofon for iPhone, it sends the last tweet id to their server. When you check the unread tweets from Echofon for Mac (or Echofon for Firefox), it just shows tweets you haven't read. Awesome.

It has almost all functions as a twitter client for Mac. Un-shortening urls, pop up a image window for twitpic and flickr urls, Growl notifications and so on. The only thing I'm missing is that there's no way to read "favorites" of users, include my account. But it's not a big deal for now. I hope it will be implemented soon.

Echofon for Mac is the best twitter client. It's simple and slick. Go http://echofon.com/twitter/mac/ and check it out. It's a beta release so that *you* can improve it by sending your feedback to them.

Media Resources Prepared School Remarks

Every single one of you has something you’re good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That’s the opportunity an education can provide. 

Maybe you could be a good writer – maybe even good enough to write a book or articles in a newspaper – but you might not know it until you write a paper for your English class. Maybe you could be an innovator or an inventor – maybe even good enough to come up with the next iPhone or a new medicine or vaccine – but you might not know it until you do a project for your science class. Maybe you could be a mayor or a Senator or a Supreme Court Justice, but you might not know that until you join student government or the debate team.

And no matter what you want to do with your life – I guarantee that you’ll need an education to do it. You want to be a doctor, or a teacher, or a police officer? You want to be a nurse or an architect, a lawyer or a member of our military? You’re going to need a good education for every single one of those careers. You can’t drop out of school and just drop into a good job. You’ve got to work for it and train for it and learn for it.

And this isn’t just important for your own life and your own future. What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country. What you’re learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future. 

You’ll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to cure diseases like cancer and AIDS, and to develop new energy technologies and protect our environment. You’ll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and make our nation more fair and more free. You’ll need the creativity and ingenuity you develop in all your classes to build new companies that will create new jobs and boost our economy. 

We need every single one of you to develop your talents, skills and intellect so you can help solve our most difficult problems. If you don’t do that – if you quit on school – you’re not just quitting on yourself, you’re quitting on your country.

US and JP Cities in Comparison

At the soul food dinner, Miyagawa-san described a relationship between LA and SF as Osaka and Kobe. And we talked a bit more: 

• Tokyo: New York
• Osaka: Los Angeles
• Kobe: San Francisco
• Sendai: Seattle
• Nagoya: Chicago

I agree with "San Francisco: Kobe" since Kobe has a lot of hills and tourists and has a cozy distance from the big city Osaka and placed in the different side of the largest megacity Tokyo.  

So, where should Hokkaido be mapped? Alaska? no way! Despite the fact that they're suffering from a pile of crazy snow in Hokkaido, I hope someone would say the state made up with islands: Hawaii. Lava could be described as snow. unlikely ;-p
